October/Halloween Fic Challenge

October Fic Challenge:

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and it's probably fitting that one of my favorite Transformers stories is set during Halloween. "Something Robotic This Way Comes" from the Transformers: Legends anthology; the story is set in the Armada universe, several thousand years after the series' conclusion and revolves around a group of Minicons celebrating a holiday they call the Treating which is their take on Halloween. The main theme of the story is that the Minicons were introduced to the idea of trick or treat by Carlos, Rad and Alexis and the Treating is their way of remembering their long-lost friends. It's a wonderfully sweet story about the importance of friendship and generosity.

It's also a very well-done piece about Transformers reacting to piece of Earth culture and making it their own.

The theme for this fic challenge is Halloween and Transformers, whatever your take on it might be. It could be the Autobots celebrating Halloween with their human counterparts. Ironhide riding along as the Lennoxs take Annabelle trick or treating. A costume party at the Ark.

It could be a horror story set on or off Earth -- Cybertron does have demons of its own, after all. Not to mention the Dweller in the Depths. The boundaries between worlds are thought to be thinner at this time of year, making it possible for the Transformers to run into any sort of ghoulie, ghostie or long-legged beastie -- not that you're limited to supernatural horror; psychological horror is sometimes scarier.

Or you could go broader -- dig deeper into the origins and symbols of Halloween or look at holidays similar to it such as Samhain, the holiday Halloween is in large part based on. Orthe Day of the Dead celebrated on November 1st and 2nd in Mexico, for instance. Or any of a number of other holidays associated with remembering the dead, though many such as O-bon in Japan are not celebrated in October.
